Information We Collect

The American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) collects information you provide directly when you create an account, register a dog, enter a show, or make a purchase. This includes your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and payment information. When you register a dog, we also collect the dog's registered name, breed, variety, date of birth, DNA test results, pedigree documentation, and photographs. We automatically collect certain technical information when you visit our website, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages viewed. We may also collect location data when you use our event finder feature to locate shows near you.

How We Use Your Information

ABKC uses the information we collect to operate and maintain the official breed registry, process dog registrations and ownership transfers, manage show entries and publish results, process merchandise orders and payments, send transactional emails such as registration confirmations and order receipts, communicate important updates about ABKC rules, show schedules, and breed standards, improve our website and services, and comply with legal obligations. We may also use your information to send periodic newsletters about ABKC news and events, which you can opt out of at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.

Third-Party Service Providers

We share your information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating our website and conducting our business. These providers are contractually obligated to keep your information confidential and use it only for the purposes we specify:

• Stripe processes all payment transactions for merchandise purchases, show entry fees, and registration fees. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance standards. ABKC does not store your full credit card number on our servers.
• Supabase provides our database infrastructure and user authentication services. All data is stored in SOC 2 Type II compliant data centers located within the United States. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256 and TLS 1.2 or higher.
• Sentry provides error monitoring and performance tracking to help us identify and fix technical issues. Sentry may collect technical data such as browser information, error stack traces, and anonymized usage patterns. No personally identifiable registration or payment data is transmitted to Sentry.
• Google Maps is used to display event venue locations and provide directions to ABKC-sanctioned shows. When you interact with embedded maps, Google may collect data according to their own privacy policy, including location data and cookies.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

ABKC uses essential cookies to maintain your session, remember your language preference, and keep items in your shopping cart. We use analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with our website, which helps us improve the user experience. You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences. Disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of certain features, such as maintaining your login session or shopping cart contents. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising or sell cookie data to third parties.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

ABKC is committed to protecting the privacy of children. Our website and services are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If a parent or guardian wishes to create an account on behalf of a minor for programs such as the ABKC Junior Handler program, verifiable parental consent is required before any personal information about the child is collected or stored. Parents or guardians may review, update, or request deletion of their child's personal information at any time by contacting us at privacy@abkcdogs.net. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without proper parental consent, we will promptly delete that information from our records. ABKC does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer children's personal information to third parties for any purpose.

Data Retention

ABKC retains your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Dog registration records, pedigree data, and show results are maintained as part of the permanent breed registry, which is essential to the ABKC's mission as a breed registry organization. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal contact information and login credentials within 30 days, but registry records (dog registrations, pedigree data, show results, and ownership history) will be retained as part of the official breed record. Payment transaction records are retained for seven years as required by applicable tax and financial regulations.

Children's Data Retention

Personal information collected from children under 13 — parental consent records and a child's course progress and achievements in ABKC youth programs — is collected solely to verify parental consent and to deliver the program the child is enrolled in, and is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill that purpose. If verifiable parental consent is not completed before the consent request expires, the pending consent record and any associated child program data are automatically and permanently purged on a daily schedule. Where consent has been granted, a child's program data is retained only while enrollment remains active and is deleted when consent is revoked or the account is closed. Children's personal information is never retained indefinitely and is deleted using reasonable measures designed to protect against unauthorized access to, or use of, the information in connection with its deletion.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or update your personal information at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. You may request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. You may opt out of non-essential communications at any time. California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. ABKC does not sell personal information to third parties. Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA) have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
